Installing the snippet in GTM
You will put the snippet into a Google Tag Manager (GTM) Custom HTML tag that fires on Initialization – All Pages, then check it in Preview.
What you'll need
- Your Specification open on Quadrano Local.
- Edit access to a GTM workspace for the site.
- For the follow-along on the demo shop,
demo.quadrano.com: a new, empty container in your own GTM account. You can't edit the shop's own container, so the shop lets you bring yours (step 9). You never need to publish it.
What you'll have
- A Custom HTML tag firing on Initialization – All Pages, checked in Preview.
Steps
Get the snippet. On Quadrano Local, choose Get snippet. You should see the snippet and the install steps.
Copy the snippet. Choose Copy snippet. You should see Copied. If copying is not available, the page says Copying isn't available here. Select the snippet and copy it by hand. Do that instead.
Open GTM. In your GTM workspace, open Tags. You should see the list of tags.
Create a new tag. Choose New. You should see the new-tag screen with an untitled tag.
Choose the tag type. In Tag Configuration, choose Custom HTML. You should see a large text area.
Paste the snippet into the text area.
Set the trigger. In Triggering, choose Initialization – All Pages. This trigger fires before other tags push, so the snippet sees every push.
Save. Choose Save. You should see your new tag in the Tags list.
Preview. Choose Preview, then connect to the site. You should see GTM's Preview panel. Do not publish to test.
For the follow-along, first open
demo.quadrano.com, open its "Demo menu", choose "Let me bring my own GTM container", type your container's ID (it looks likeGTM-XXXXXXX) and choose "Save". The page reloads and says "Using your container GTM-XXXXXXX". Then choose Preview in GTM and connect todemo.quadrano.com. The "Demo menu" also has an "Event playground" whose buttons make the shop's correct and broken pushes, so you don't have to go through checkout.Open the browser Console on the site. Each event shows ✓, or ✗ with what's wrong. Read the verdicts in Reading the Console output.
After any change in Quadrano Local, choose Get snippet again, Copy snippet, and replace the tag's text.
