Getting started with Quadrano Local
What Quadrano Local is, and the four steps from an empty browser to Console verdicts on your site.
What is Quadrano / Quadrano Local?
Quadrano is a Data Layer Event validation service - it monitors events as they're pushed into the GTM Data Layer object.
Quadrano Local is a self-contained version for deployment in non-Production environments.
What does Quadrano Local do?
Every time Quadrano Local validates an event, it writes a message into the Console: if the event matches the Specification, it gets a green checkmark; if it doesn't match, there's a complete description of what went wrong.
What does Quadrano Local help with?
Quadrano Local closes the gap between the Marketer or Implementor who specifies the events and the Dev who codes the events. There's no new software to learn - the Dev (or the QA Engineer) simply opens the Console and looks at the messages that clearly show whether or not an event matches the Specification.
Quadrano Local is targeted at reducing the number of rounds of QA between the Dev and the Requestor when new events are being implemented. It helps with unforeseen regression issues by automatically highlighting any event that drifts from the initial Specification.
Reasons for using Quadrano Local
Cost
Quadrano Local is free (and will remain free).
Simplicity
Quadrano Local has a pre-built catalogue of Google-defined events (e.g., add_to_cart, purchase) - you can build a Specification with a few clicks, if that's all you need. Deploying Quadrano Local requires a single Custom HTML tag in GTM (Google Tag Manager).
Ease of Use
No need for integrations, dashboards, software installs - just open the Console in any modern browser and view the automatic output.
Confidentiality
The builder for Quadrano Local is browser-only: nothing leaves the browser when the Specification is being built, exported, saved, or copied. The Specification's code snippet only needs to be deployed in a non-Production GTM environment.
Getting started with Quadrano Local
Quadrano Local is a browser-only builder for a Data Layer Specification. A Specification is a named set of Event Definitions: the rules for each event your site pushes. It also makes a snippet for Google Tag Manager that checks each push in the browser Console.
Quadrano Local's promise is simple: "Nothing you type leaves your browser." It holds one Specification per browser, up to 50 Event Definitions. The counter reads {count} of {max} Event Definitions.
What you'll need
- A browser.
What you'll have
- A clear path for the four steps ahead.
The four steps
- Build a Specification. See Creating a Specification.
- Get the snippet. On Quadrano Local, choose Get snippet.
- Install it in GTM Preview. See Installing the snippet in GTM.
- Read the Console. See Reading the Console output.
Keeping your work
Quadrano Local keeps your work in this browser. To keep a copy, choose Export file; the file you download is a Quadrano Local file. To open it later, choose Import file. It can be imported in the same browser or shared to a completely different machine as required.
If the browser is not keeping your work, the page says so and tells you to export it.
What Quadrano Local is not
Quadrano Local checks the pushes you test yourself. It does not watch your live website. Join early access to hear about Quadrano Hosted when it launches with 100% real-user monitoring.
